First Day of School

We are excited to welcome students back to campus for the first day of school, tomorrow, Tuesday, August 11th!

School starts at 8:10am so please allow extra time for drop off as the parking lot is generally pretty busy on the first day.

For safety purposes, parents that want to walk their student into the building may walk into the front foyer and then students will go to class from there. We will have staff members throughout the building to help students get to their 1st period classrooms.

It is important for all students to be present on the first day of school as state law requires us to withdraw any students who are not present for the first day of school.

We look forward to seeing your student tomorrow!

Returning Student Registration

All families returning to Mesquite ISD must complete returning student registration in Skyward Family Access. it must be completed in the parent's Skyward account - not the student's account.

This is an important step to verify your student's information and contact information for the upcoming school year.

Over 90% of our families have completed this process so thank you Viking families!

Returning student registration must be completed in order to see your student's schedule to be viewable.

Thank you for taking care of this important step for a successful start to the school year!

Student Schedules

All students should verify their schedules in Skyward today.

Some schedule changes were completed this weekend to balance class sizes to maximize instruction for all students. We appreciate your understanding!

School Basics

  • Building opens at 7:35am.

  • Breakfast is free for all students 7:35 - 8:00am.
  • Students need to arrive on campus by 8:05am so that they can be in their 1st period class by 8:10am.
  • Students will exit the door closest to their 7th period classroom.
  • Students will be allowed to carry clear backpacks.
  • Extracurricular activity storage - Instruments will be stored in the band and orchestra rooms. All pre-athletics and athletics students will be able to store bags in bins located in the front foyer lobby upon arrival. Bins will be secured until use, and available for pick up at the end of the day.

Clear Backpacks

All items inside a student's backpack, purse, or tote must be visible, however, students may carry one small nonclear bag to hold personal items, such as money and hygiene products. The nonclear bag may be no larger than 8.5''x5.5'', which is about the size of a half sheet of letter-size piece of paper.

A few important highlights for families

  • Mesh bags are not allowed.
  • Colored tint is not allowed.
  • Lunch bags must also be clear.

ID Badges

All secondary students must wear their ID badge throughout the school day.

Students will receive their new badge for the 26-27 school year on the first day of school. Each student will be given an ID, a lanyard, and a plastic badge protector.

Students must bring and wear their ID every day.

IDs must be out and visible. The picture and name on the ID must remain visible and cannot be covered up or colored over.

If a student forgets their ID, they will be given a temporary ID to wear for the day that must be turned in at the end of the day. Students will be charged for a new ID once they have not brought theirs 3 times. Replacement IDs cost $3.

Additional lanyards and clear plastic protectors can be purchased in the front office for $1 each.

We appreciate your help in ensuring that your student comes to school every day with their ID!

Device Insurance Fee

Annual device fees have been added to each student's account for the upcoming school year. This is a single payment for the school year designed to cover the cost of your student's first accidental device damage.

The annual non-refundable device insurance fee is $20. For families with multiple students, the device insurance fee will not exceed $60.

We want to make sure you understand how this plan benefits your family by helping to manage potential repair or replacement costs.

If the device insurance fee is not paid by September 4, 2026, or a payment plan is not in place, students will be required to pay the full cost of device repairs and replacement in the event of damage, including for the first incident.
