Vanston Middle School serves approximately 850 students in grades 6 through 8, including the Regional Day School Program for the Deaf. As part of the North Mesquite High School feeder pattern, our campus is a place where students are encouraged to grow, discover their strengths, and find their place in a supportive community that believes every student is made to excel.
The campus first opened in 1959 and was rebuilt in 1994 to better serve the growing Mesquite community. Named after Edmond Francis Vanston, an Irish immigrant and prominent local leader, the school honors his legacy of service and community involvement. Vanston moved to Mesquite in 1877 and went on to own one of the largest hardware stores in Dallas County, as well as serve multiple terms on the Mesquite City Council. Originally opened as Lamar Elementary School, the campus was converted into a middle school during the 1964–65 school year, undergoing a name change.
